Description
PYE Mozart - Stereo HFS20 - EL34 Power & Pre Valve Amplifier - 1960s High Quaity Stereo PYE Mozart Single Ended EL34 Power & Pre Amplifier. For use with Tannoy / Leak / BBC Rogers LS3/5A Loudspeakers Sold untested for spares or repair. A full set of new valves & full service required before use, due to its vintage age. Introduced in 1959, the HFS20 was the stereo version of the popular HF-10 (produced in 1957). It was an economical and popular alternative for British Hi-Fi buffs who were eager to embrace the new stereo sound which had exploded onto the scene in 1958. Priced at £30 in kit form or £35 in chassis mode (a metal cased version was also available for £36.15s) the entire unit was quite small, measuring only 4 x 10½ x 11 inches (102 x 267 x 279mm). Although packaged as an integrated amplifier, the power and preamplifier sections were on separate chassis (see pictures at right). Like its predecessor, the HFS20 utilised a single ended EL34 output section which produced 9 watts (each channel) at 0.3% distortion. Total negative feedback was 27dB and frequency response was claimed to be a rather impressive 5 - 50,000 cps ± 2dB.
