Description

An exquisite restoration of this vintage RCA 45 RPM record player from about 1957. The 8-EY-31 uses RCA's RP-190 record changer with a 4 inch speaker. The original 1 tube amplifier has been modified with the addition of a 6AT6 preamp tube. This allowed the installation of a modern ceramic cartridge for improved sound and increased volume. Restoration process - Unit was completely disassembled. Case: - All old covering material removed. - Case repaired to be structurally sound. - Expertly re-covered with high quality vinyl Tolex cabinet material. This is the same material used on custom guitar cabinets. - All new brass plated hardware: hinges, latches, button feet, and handle brackets. - Handle is original. - New grill cloth. - New rubber feet added to bottom of unit. Mechanism: - Completely disassembled, thoroughly cleaned, reassembled, lubricated, adjusted and tested. - All new rubber parts: idler wheel, cycling cam, motor mounts and chassis mounts. - Turntable chassis: Old paint removed, primed, painted, and clear coated. - Motor disassembled, bearings cleaned and lubricated, rotor shafts polished. Amplifier: - Original 1 tube amp modified with a 6AT6 preamp tube. - Old selenium rectifier replaced with a modern diode. - All new capacitors and resistors. - New AC cord. - Volume and tone controls cleaned for static free operation. -Tubes test good. Cartridge: - New stereo cartridge with diamond stylus bridged for mono play. This phonograph will safely play both stereo and mono records. - Cartridge is genuine Chou Denshi, Japan, not a cheap knockoff. - Tonearm tracks nicely at under 4 grams. Speaker: - Original speaker is excellent with no tears or holes. Up to 12 records can be stacked for continuous play. This is a beautiful record player that sounds great.
