Description
Rebuildingold vintage amplifiers is just a hobby to me. I try to keep things original asmuch as possible. But old electronics can have issues such as being out oftolerance or just bad. I typically replace pots, resistor & capacitors. Ibought this amplifier off the web to upgrade it as a practice bass amplifier. Ibasically had to gut it. I replaced all the resistors, capacitors, pots andknobs and power cord. I added new components but kept the 8 ohm outputtransformer as well as the power transformer and added a 3 wire power cord andfuse. Iwired it up with an Ampeg B-15N circuit in mind. It uses a 6SL7GT pre-amp witha the Baxandall tone control circuit in between the two stages. The volumecontrol is after the 2 nd pre-amp stage leading into a 6SN7GT phaseinverter driving the pair of 6V6GT power tubes. The power section uses a 5Y3GTrectifier. See the schematic diagrams. Thechassis did not have a cage or bottom protective plate. I modified a bottomplate to not get my fingers into the circuitry by mistake. I did not do a verygood job with the bottom plate, but it does its purpose. There is no cage forthe top of the amp. I built this as just a practice amp with no intention astaking it gigging. However, If you wish to build a box, go for it. Allthe tubes are new JJs with the 6V6s as Apex Matched pair. The amp producesbetween 20 to 25 watts and works well for a practice amp. It can be used forBass or Guitar. I have used it for Bass. I have connected a 12-inch cabinet, a2x10 cabinet and a 1x10 cabinet. You should be able speaker setup but the totalimpedance must be 8 ohms . Althoughit was a fun project and I nearly had to replace most of the components, it isbeing sold as is.
