Description
This is a preamplifier that uses no tubes to amplify the signal. Built by Jack Elliano of Electra-Print audio co. It is an impedance step up transformer (50-600 ohms to 50K+ ohms). Used with music sources of low output impedance’s like CD players, computer headphone, and smart phone outputs, etc. Best to have source volume control to set a comfortable position of volume control on PVA. Using a transformer to amplify offers a different and more accurate means of reproduction. A tube is a gain only, device which has one set of rules, the selected fixed gain and changes source impedance with voltage signal level/s. Gain of PVA is set by “source impedance” of device used. Overall gain is the same of more so than usual tube line amps. A step up transformer has its designed turns ratio and obeys square law (X 4), impedance/s remains the product of its input source, and it’s secondary delivery is exponential (square law) like the actual air sound from the instruments used and the speakers you use also. Many can hear this difference. The air is moved now exponentially, like real life. Measured specs are, at 50k loading, -1db 20hz to 65khz. Distortion, at 3v output, is less than 1% AT 2khz. Core material is NiSi (nickel/silicon). Dimensions are 4.5" × 3.5" x 2.5"
